Hoboken Police Department patchHOBOKEN, N.J. - The planned layoff of 16 Hoboken police officers has been postponed and is pending further review, according to the city's fiscal monitor.

According to the monitor, Judy Tripodi, concerns about the upcoming Fourth of July fireworks display on the Hudson River has resulted in the decision to push back the original June 20 date.

The city anticipates some 40,000 out-of-town spectators will converge on Hoboken on July 4.

The layoffs will be postponed until at least July 20.
