Taylor Swift confirms new album 'Reputation,' reveals new single drops Thursday

Facebook, which owns Instagram, didn't immediately respond to our question about whether the traction on her post has set any sort of record.

She announced the news on social media, days after her social media pages went dark. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008.

Timeless.com was registered to Taylor Swift, leading many to believe that "Timeless" will be the name of her first single, or will at least figure into the album in some other way. It will mark the singer's sixth studio album, and her first in three years.

But that's not all - Swifties will get a taste of her new music later this week! The singer has hit the headlines quite a lot in recent months, mainly due to her court battle against former DJ David Mueller, and her well-known music rivalry with fellow pop star Katy Perry. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which has received widespread media coverage. Not a bad strategy for a woman known to bury references in her liner notes. Is Taylor Swift trying to tell us she's goth now?!

Swift then took what appeared to be a major break from the limelight, notably taking a longer stretch of time to release her next record. A new album? A new song? A title, release date, and cover art doesn't change all that much when it comes to the theories (many of them conspiracy-leaning, given Swift's apparent love of cryptography)-but it gives fans plenty more to read into.

With 2012's "Red" and 2014's "1989", she made a dramatic shift away from country music.

After all, even Beyoncé had to perform a medley when she played Lemonade at the VMAs.
