Film critic Alan Zilberman called the clip "so nakedly fascist that alt-righters will have an erection before the trailer ends". Granted some could argue the same for Bruce Willis, the man who has since landed the lead, but I believe he's capable of toeing that line.
It's a remake of the 1974 film that starred Charles Bronson, which itself was based on Brian Garfield's novel of the same name. Eli Roth, the controversial horror writer/director, is known for going to many of those very same places. With the police overloaded with crimes, he vigilantly hunts his family's assailants to deliver justice.
Given the virtually everything is being rebooted now, it was only at matter of time before someone took a crack at the Death Wish series of films. "I wanted to bring Bruce back to that "Fifth Element, ' "Unbreakable, ' 'Die Hard" glory and have him craft another iconic performance, and I really think he did it".
Check out the Death Wish remake trailer below. "The fun is watching him go insane and watching someone slowly move the moral goal post".
On Thursday, the first trailer for Eli Roth's next film, Death Wish, premiered. Directed by Eli Roth and produced by Sylvester Stallone and starring Bruce Willis the film takes numerous cues of the original film with a man taking justice into his own hands.
In addition to Willis, the updated Death Wish also stars Dean Norris, Vincent D'Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, and Mike Epps.
Death Wish will unleash the unbridled armory of Bruce Willis's Paul Kersey when it arrives at theaters on November 22, 2017.
