They said the deceased were identified as Mohammad Shoukat, employed in Territorial Army and his wife Safia Bi, residents of Karmara. Some children were also injured during the firing and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops.

35-year-old army jawan Showkat, who had come on a leave to spend time with family, and his 3-year-old wife Safiya were killed after sustaining critical splinter injuries of mortar shell, the official said. On June 12, two civilians were martyred and three injured in Indian troops' unprovoked firing with heavy weapons in Jandrot and Hotspring (Tattapani) sectors along the LoC.

In what has been its evergreen strategy, Pakistan yet again accused India of violating ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).

Indian troops returned the fire strongly and effectively, the spokesperson said.
