In metro Chattanooga, gas prices also fell another 1.7 cents last week to $1.88 per gallon - the 20th lowest for gas prices among more than 350 metro cities in America, GasBuddy.com said.

Motorists hitting the road this long holiday weekend will see some of the lowest summer fuel prices in recent memory. "So that's quite a remarkable outcome, especially given that it costs more or refiners to make summer blend gasoline".

The national average gas price (as of July 2) is about four cents cheaper than this same time a year ago, at $2.234 per gallon, and quite low for the summer travel season.

According to Gasbuddy's daily survey of more than 300 outlets in the region, Manatee County stations were averaging $2.05 per gallon Monday, with Sarasota County at $2.11.

"The combination of tepid demand and increased gasoline and crude oil output continues to put downward pressure on gas prices", said Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast. Oil prices have rebounded off the previous $42 per barrel low, and now stand near $45 per barrel. This week's statewide average of $2.05 per gallon is two cents lower than last week at this time. "It is just a matter of time before the national average bottoms out for the short-term". The highest was about $2.35 in the Ann Arbor area.

Just an hour's drive west, Ohio's average gasoline price is $2.09 - an 18 percent discount off Pittsburgh-area prices.
