Kmart to close Springettsbury Township store

A company spokesman told ABC27 News the store at 1094 Haines Road will begin its liquidation sale on June 29 and close to the public in mid-September. The plan was disclosed early Friday in a filing by Seritage Growth Properties, the landlord for more than 200 Sears and Kmart properties.

A Sears Home store in northwest Edmonton will be closing along with 12 other Sears locations in Alberta as part of a larger restructuring across Canada. A Sears Home store in Calgary is also closing.

Kmart hopes to retain some of the sales from the Olean store through its Shop Your Way rewards membership program, Riefs said.

Thunder Bay's Sears store at Intercity Shopping Centre is on the retailer's safe list, for now.

The Sears at Richmond Town Square in Richmond Heights was included in a previous round of closures.

Earlier this year, Sears closed its Enfield Square Mall location in CT along with Kmart locations in Fairhaven, Great Barrington and South Attleboro, as well as a Sears Auto Center in Swansea. The number so far this year is triple what it was in the same period last year, according to an analysis by Fung Global Retail & Technology, a retail think tank. The announcement came after the Ontario Superior Court of Justice granted the department store chain temporary protection from creditors under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA).

The company will not say how many employees will lose their jobs. Another 45.3% of the stock is owned by an investment fund controlled by Sears Holdings Chairman Edward Lampert.
