The acting president held a town hall meeting with the people of the state at the sprawling Calabar International Conference Centre built by the Liyel Imoke government, which was one of the projects he inspected.

Ben Ayade. "Acting President 'Yemi Osinbajo's visit is a validation of our efforts taken so far to achieve this laudable goal".

He said that for Nigeria to make progress, there was need for unity among Nigerians. "Unity is absolutely important because God wants us to be united", Osinbajo said. "We are committed to the transformation of the state and we know we will achieve what we have set out to do".

" The garment factory is a clear example of how to provide jobs for the people and I urge other state governments to replicate the same in their states", he said.

"When people speak of Nigeria and respect this country, it is because of the diversity; because of the strength in numbers".

According to him, the Federal Government was doing everything possible to accommodate every Nigerian, noting that President Muhammadu Buhari's government will continue to work assiduously for the interest and development of all sections of the country.

In response, the Acting President said Cross River is historic in Nigeria assuring that the Federal Government can never forget a strategic state like Cross River.

In his response, the Obong of Calabar, while appreciating the visit and asked that the traditional institution be given constitutional powers.

The Acting President was later given a chieftain title in Efik tradition "Ada-idaha ke Efik Eburutu (a chief in Obong's Council)".
