Prominent Congress leader and MLA from Amritsar (West) Dr Rajkumar Verka whom former AAP Punjab convenor Gurpreet Singh Ghutti met before resigning told India Today that Congress party will welcome any leader who supports its policies. The AAP MLA and leader of opposition in Punjab said that the decision to elect Mann was taken unanimously and there is no "face-off" over the decision, as reported by The Indian Express. "But now it has become hard for me to continue and so I resign from its primary membership", said visibly emotional Waraich, who was appointed as the convener a year ago after Sucha Singh Chhotepur was ousted over bribery allegations.

Ghuggi had earlier questioned the "urgency" of appointing Mann as the new Punjab president and also questioned under "what pressure" the decision was taken. Ghuggi, who is the former Punjab convener of the AAP, said that he would stay in politics but not be associated with the AAP.

BJP leaders have claimed that senior AAP leaders were ready to quit the party after its shameful drubbing in Punjab and the allegations of corruption which the senior leaders including Arvind Kejriwal are facing.

The BJP had also claimed that a few AAP leaders are in touch with them as well.

He said suspended party leader and MP Dharmavira Gandhi, MLAs Sukhpal Khaira and H S Phoolka could have been a better choice to head the as state unit. This is not the same party I had joined.

Ghuggi said he had resigned as the AAP had ditched its ideals. He said he would reach out to those upset with decisions, including his appointment. "They should have been included in the selection process", he said adding that AAP was deviating from its principles. "They call this election process, this is not election process it is a farce", Ghuggi said.

"It hurts me that I'm being forced to work under a person who has been made a Convener after the party convinced him to quit his drinking habits". The resignation of Khaira was in protest for Mann's selection.

Asked whether the party will suffer any setback because of Ghuggi's resignation, Mann said, "Parties are above individuals".

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Guggi from the AAP is a "direct result of the moral degradation" in the party.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had replaced Ghuggi with Bhagwant Mann.
